Man On Fire

Live Version, "Final Destination" B-side
An old track of Roger's from 1984. This version is quite different from the original and has some very nice guitar. It has almost a "country" feel at times, particularly on the guitar break, but the song is still a rocker at heart. Available on the CD of "Final Destination" only, and consequently extremely rare now. However the song itself is very similar to other live versions from this time. Includes a brief spoken introduction to the song by Roger. The same version was also released on the CD single and 12" of "New Dark Ages", though edited slightly differently (see later). Time 5:07

Live Version, "New Dark Ages" B-side
One of the B-sides to "New Dark Ages", released on CD and 12" only. This is the same version that also appears on the "Final Destination" CD single, although this version is shorter. The difference in time between this and the 5:07 "Final Destination" recording is that on "Final Destination" you can hear Roger introducing the song, and there is some extra crowd cheering at the beginning and end. But the music is exactly the same. This version is much easier to find than the "Final Destination" one though, and cheaper too. Time 4:52

We Will Rock You

Live Version, Gosport 1993
Only on bootlegs, specifically "Gosport 93". This is a very odd version, which does not sound particularly like the original to start with (in fact it starts more like an instrumental jam than anything). The bass seems to be the driving force behind it, and it has a much funkier sound than any other version I've come across. Certainly very different, this is both distinctive and original. Sadly, while the performance is good, the sound quality is atrocious. But recommended anyway.

Dear Mr. Murdoch

Unreleased
This excellent song actually started life as a Cross track, one of their very latest efforts. Its a very direct attack on the morals of the tabloid press, with "Mr. Murdoch" being Rupert Murdoch, a notorious newspaper tycoon from the UK. Although it was never released (most likely, due to not having a record label to release it on by then), Roger did record a solo version for his "Happiness?" album later. Its unlikely that Roger's solo version is much different to the original though. Presumably this would have been on the album after "Blue Rock", if The Cross had convinced EMI to renew their recording contract.
