Mad, Bad And Dangerous To Know

The second Cross album saw the other band members doing a large part of the song-writing. There are some fine moments here, notably the opening "Top Of The World Ma", "Liar" and the original "Final Destination". There were three singles released, and there is some good additional material.

Alternate Versions

Liar

Single Remix
Great stuff. An edited remix (slightly poppier) of the album's 4:31 version. Quite noticeably different, and manages to improve on the already great LP mix. Highly recommended. On 7", 12" and CD single, but extremely hard to find. Released in Germany only. Time 3:19

12" Remix
A completely remixed version. Totally different, much gentler and some additional acoustic guitar. The song seems to have been "broken down" and re-constructed from its base elements, giving a completely different feel to it. Very nice. CD and 12" only. Though it's one of the hardest Cross items to track down, it is worth it. Time 6:23

Live Version, "Mad, Bad and Dangerous" Tour
As performed circa 1990. A more "funky" sound than on the album, with the bass much more prominent, and largely replacing the keyboards from the original. A long, slow percussive section either at or near the end is a common feature of live versions too, and its all quite different. Very good though.

Power To Love

Single Version
The first single from their second album was this slightly edited version, about thirty seconds shorter than the album mix. On 7", 12" and CD, this was the only single from this album issued in the UK, and is far easier to find than the others. Among the bits that are cut out is the bridge to the first chorus - the "time out for the rat race" part. This makes this edit immediately stand out. Strangely, it wasn't used in the video which seems to have the full album mix.

Extended Version
At nearly six minutes, this is a good remix with a lot of extra instrumental. The start in particular has a much extended instrumental section, and there are a few other extra guitar parts too. On the 12" and CD single. Time 5:55

B-sides & Bonus Tracks etc.

Foxy Lady

CD-only Bonus Track
Found on CD copies on the album, and on the promo album sampler CD. If you've heard Roger play Hendrix covers before, you know what to expect. Reasonable, but not a patch on the original. Perhaps that's unfair, they do at least deserve credit for trying! Not too bad, but then you ought to have the CD anyway, and if you don't then this could be the excuse you've been looking for. Not on the "2-on-1" CD bootleg version however, so you'll need an official copy.

In Charge Of My Heart

Original B-side
The B-side to "Liar", and only available in this form on the 7". A straightforward rocker, dominated by keyboards and a fast-paced guitar riff. A bit under-developed in comparison with their other material though. Time 2:19.

Extended Version
On the 12" and CD of "Liar" only. Extended to double its original length. The extra bit is a long, moody introduction played by Roger on the drums, before launching into the 7" version. Very good all the same, and far more atmospheric than the original version. Time 4:40.
