At The Beeb

Album Background

Released as "At The BBC" in North America. This album contains two complete BBC radio sessions, one from 1973 and one from 1974. There were obviously no singles etc. released from it, and there are no "extras" as such. However, these were not the only BBC sessions Queen recorded. In all, four more sessions exist. The "radio takes" mentioned elsewhere in this guide are from those unreleased sessions, and are definitely not the same versions as on "At The Beeb". The unreleased sessions are: one session from 1973 (4 tacks), two sessions from 1974 (4 tracks each), and one session from 1977 (4 tracks). They feature tracks from "Queen", "Queen II", "Sheer Heart Attack" and "News Of The World". Visit those pages if you want to know more!

There were plans to release all six BBC sessions on a double album at some point, although this now seems to be delayed indefinitely. It was also to be called "At The BBC", which would no doubt have caused a lot of confusion anyway (particularly in the US). But at least everyone would have been able to hear them!

Its worth mentioning though that the versions on "At The Beeb" are quite interesting themselves. "Doing All Right" features Roger on lead vocal for the last verse, "Son And Daughter" is longer than usual and includes the "Brighton Rock" guitar solo, and "Modern Times Rock'n'Roll" and "Ogre Battle" are both different from the album takes.
