Greatest Hits II

This second "Greatest Hits" package covers the period 1981-1992, i.e. singles from "Hot Space" to "Innuendo". Being a compilation of singles, it features several tracks in their "single mix" form, rather than the original album versions. However, closer inspection reveals some other differences too. Many of the tracks on the CD version are edited slightly, in order to fit all the tracks onto one CD. The editing was done by David Richards, and is on the whole quite well done, apart from "Under Pressure", which loses a line of lyrics (see "Hot Space").

Below is a list of all the tracks from "Greatest Hits II" that differ in some way from their original album format, including the tracks that appear in "single mix" form. Anything mentioned in bold is described in the appropriate album section elsewhere in this guide.

Note that cassette and vinyl copies do not have these edits.

The edits of "Innuendo" and "Radio Ga-Ga" are so minor they haven't been given a special mention elsewhere (they simply fade out fractionally earlier than usual), but everything else has. Generally there is no real audible difference however, unless of course you're listening for it.

The US compilation "Classic Queen" also had problems with running times on CD, but only has three tracks that differ from usual. The first is a major edit of "The Miracle" (only 4:25 long), which the disc actually mentions in the small print. However, "One Vision" is also edited and "Under Pressure" is a remix, neither of which get any mention! Details of all three can be found in the relevant album sections elsewhere.
