Live Magic
Album Background
There were no singles released from this live album, but the vinyl and CD versions are slightly different in that the CD claims to have "Full Live Versions" of several tracks ("A Kind Of Magic", "Another One Bites The Dust" and "Hammer To Fall") compared to the vinyl's "Edited Live Versions". As with some previous live releases, it seems the actual music is untouched and it is the banter between Freddie and the crowd between tracks that has been edited out on vinyl. How much of a loss this is depends on whether you want to listen to the album as a proper concert, or just a set of live versions. Many people feel too much has been edited out of this album anyway, and indeed if you want to hear a complete Queen concert then "Live At Wembley '86" is a much better bet. This is more an "edited highlights" collection, that misses some of the more interesting material.
An extremely rare radio promo 7" does exist for this album though. This has a rare "Radio Edit" of "Under Pressure", but from the time I've seen quoted (3:36) it would appear that it is the normal version found on both this and the Live At Wembley '86 album, and only the crowd and any between song banter has been edited out. Presumably this also applies to the B-side, the live medley of "We Will Rock You / Friends Will Be Friends / We Are The Champions" also found on the album. So there is no new music as such. This promo has also been sighted in the US, which is a little strange as Capitol Records initially refused to promote or release this album over there. It may have been used to promote "Live At Wembley '86" there instead.
