Common problems with search strings

The search facility was intended for people to be able to search for occurrences of words (and, occasionally, longer phrases) within the lyrics to Queen songs. Analysis of how people use the facility leads to some observations about common problems.

Spellink

The search scripts can only find a song if you spell the search phrase correctly (and similarly if I typed in the words correctly). I've tried to do the latter but you still need to do the former. Examples of common mis-spellings:

"Freddy" - grrrrr, if you can't spell Freddie's name right then.....
"belzebub" - the correct is "beelzebub"
"Bohemian Rapsody" or "Boheimien Raphsody" - the correct spelling is obvious, but even if you spell it right you won't find it as the name of the song isn't mentioned in the lyrics.
"moet and shandon" - It's "chandon". Try searching for just "moet" which is easier to spell
"princess of the universe" - need I say more?

Searching for too long a phrase

This makes you vulnerable to misspellings, punctuation, pagination and all sorts of other gremlins. If you search for a long phrase with a specific song in mind then you are likely to find that there is just one hit. For example, if you search for "Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me" then do you really expect to find the phrase in anything other than Bo Rhap? Similarly, searches for specific song titles are likely to generate one hit, and going straight to the page for that song from the album page would be far quicker for you and more efficient for me.

Punctuation

Searching for something like "Mr. Farenheit" is tricky because I may have entered it as "Mister Farenheit". Best just to search for "farenheit" of course (as long as you can spell it!)

Searching for song names or album names

Song and album names will sometimes generate a hit (try "Hot Space" or "Sheer Heart Attack") but often won't ("Bohemian Rhapsody", "Works" etc.). Remember, the programs are searching the lyrics, not the FAQ or the discography. Also, you won't find anything if you search for "Highlander"!

Wrong Author

If you select "Queen" as the author then you will only search the tracks that were jointly credited to all of them (i.e. the tracks from The Miracle and Innuendo; and Under Pressure, Soul Brother and Stone Cold Crazy). I'm sure that the "Any" author selection will be by far the most common and most useful.

Note that "Heaven For Everyone" is a Roger song, and you will not find it by setting "Queen" as the author.

Wrong band

I've only got Queen/Cross/solo lyrics and collaborations. I don't have a complete list of all songs ever by everyone

Completely Crazy

The following defy comprehension :-) Did anyone really expect to find these in a Queen song?

"Meet me down the corner"
"Lead me down the road"
"reincarnation of Domingo"
"I go bananas driving in my car"
"harold and maude"

Wrong Language

The lyrics are held in the language that they were originally sung in (which, of course, is usually English). I do not have a babel-fish so, if you type in long sentences of Italian, then there are unlikely to be any songs containing those words.
